Yoda: "There is no try" - Efforting vs Effortless Being

Updated: Jul 21

Effortless Being is always just the way it is

Question:

Hi David,

I have been trying to maintain the sense of effortless being after our meeting on Friday and it has been tumultuous, to say the least. I had a family gathering on Saturday which allowed me to "test out" my true nature. I definitely had moments of experiencing it, but I couldn't sustain the feeling and by the end of the day, I had given in to the mind-body. Another issue I am having is I find myself waking up between the hours of 3 am to 6 am every morning with my mind working in overdrive with a barrage of thoughts that wear me down.

I am finding it difficult to maintain my true nature with all the noise and distractions around me. Another roadblock I am having is the sense of fear of losing my identity. I guess I mean to say my "misunderstood identity."  Yet I don't want to give up. I have been watching videos to get some pointers which can be tiring and cause information overload. The strange thing is my mind is encouraging and directing me to keep at it, but the fear paired with reluctance is also present.

Please share your thoughts...

Answer:

As regards waking up in the middle of the night, this is quite common and is a sign that the five koshas are starting to realign. I also went through this and it shouldn't last long, so please don't worry.

I did chuckle when you said how much you were "trying" to maintain effortless being. I think you were probably trying to recreate the sense of peace you felt with me on the Zoom call. Effortless being is simply the flow of what is. This 'what is' is like the flow of a river, sometimes calm and tranquil, sometimes turbulent and noisy, but always just the way it is. Mind wants to create an image of what it thinks spiritually awakened people look like and that their lives must always be serene, but really these are just mental images in the Body of Mind. Remaining as the Body of Wisdom (effortless being) means fully accepting life just the way it is and not 'trying' to make it any different.

Hope that helps.
