I first learned this word when I gave a talk at a Spiritual Retreat Centre by the same name in the North of Scotland in 2021. It is a beautiful word from my own culture and I am blessed to have met many Anam Cara in the last 2 years especially... “In the Celtic tradition, there is a beautiful understanding of love and friendship. One of the fascinating ideas here is the idea of soul-love; the old Gaelic term for this is anam cara. Anam is the Gaelic word for soul and cara is the word for friend. So Anam Cara in the Celtic world was the “soul friend.” In the early Celtic church, a person who acted as a teacher, companion, or spiritual guide was called an anam cara. It originally referred to someone to whom you confessed, revealing the hidden intimacies of life. With the anam cara you could share your inner-most self, your mind, and your heart. This friendship was an act of recognition and belonging. When you had an anam cara, your friendship cut across all convention, morality, and category. Has anyone read the poetry of Steve Taylor? I really recommend him if you are interested. He is a Psychology Professor, who has published several books on consciousness and awakening. He is also a prolific poet who encourages us to enjoy the human experience and connect with nature. Here is an example... Here is the article on Tinnitus I referred to in my previous post. I like the work of Peter Russell. I've read a few of his books and I follow him on Facebook. A few weeks ago he posted this article about a high-pitched ringing in the head, which many people reported "hearing" before or after awakening. I started hearing it about 2 months before Self-realization and still have it. I heard Rika Markel mention it in her interview with David Bingham and forwarded this article to her, which is how we got in touch initially. I actually went to a doctor and the tests ruled out standard tinnitus. I also contacted a cranial-sacral therapist about it, although I never took treatment. Through research, I assumed it was something to do with ascension and the raising of my vibration, and as it stopped bothering me, I just don't bother about it anymore. Then Peter's article popped up where he states that it could actually be the sacred sound OM! Anyway, here's the link.
