You Cannot Be Serious! - Transcending The Ego

The Earnest Seeker Reveals The Great Cosmic Joke

I have often been accused of being 'too serious'. It is something that I can trace back to my childhood and is so much part of my character now it is pretty much my default setting.

Looking back I can see that I was serious because I was confused. The world didn't make sense and what other people saw as 'normal' I saw differently. As ego. I questioned it and so I was laughed at, but I could never shake the feeling that something was slightly 'off'. I thought everyone was crazy. Turns out, I was right!

Seriousness is necessary to penetrate deep into life, to know the great mystery. Most are not serious. Their lives are full of distractions, invented by fear. Never getting below the surface they never know truth. It takes seriousness to enquire.

So even though I was ridiculed, something deep down kept me on track. I continued to be serious. A very serious seeker of truth!

Then one day, there was a simple realisation and upon this recognition, ironically, there was laughter. Laughter at the simplicity of it. Laughter at the great cosmic joke. Laughter at having been so serious.

This divine laughter when the illusion is seen through, is not that of frivolous indulgences, which are always tinged with fear. Divine laughter is the immediate dissolution of seriousness.

Seriousness is a contraction, a limitation, the sense of separation. Laughter is a release of energy, the release of what was held and a clear seeing of what is true. It takes a lot of effort to uphold the illusion of being a separate self!

However, seriousness must come first so it can be transcended. Transcendence can never come through the avoidance of seriousness. Seriousness must be faced head on.

So have a good look at all the ways you avoid seriousness, all your escape tactics, your tricks, all forms of distraction.

Then ask yourself...
