Birth and death belong to the mind. There is only ever eternal life. Infinite being.

The mind is empty—not because nothing exists, but because nothing in it is ‘me’ or ‘mine. ’The mind is only a stream of causes unfolding, a meeting of bare knowing and mental constructions.

Mind is made of momentary events:

• Form (visual, sound, smell, taste, touch, memory-imagery)

• Feeling

• Perception

• Mental formation

“When light touches the eyes, signals move to the brain, and—together with the force of past karma—a moment of vision arises in the mind.

For that brief instant, the mind is the seeing.

When one moment ends, another arises, as long as the eye continues to receive signals.

When the eyes close, the stream of signals stops, and the visual world dissolves instantly.

The same is true for the other four gateways: the nose, ears, tongue, and body. When these senses are active, they give rise to the world you experience. When they fall silent, that world collapses and only memories can create appearances in the mind.

Thus the ‘world’ is born when the five senses engage, and the ‘world’ ends when the senses withdraw. This does not mean nothing exists outside—only that the mind never touches the external directly.

“All things arise from causes. When the causes gather, the effects appear; when the causes disperse, the effects disappear.

Mind itself is an effect— a momentary meeting of conditions.

From this meeting, the sense of ‘I’ is born,

appearing as swiftly as a spark in the dark.

Seeing this clearly, we understand:

The extent to which you know others is in direct proportion to the extent in which you know your Self.

The joke is that in knowing your Self there are no others! This is called ‘the wisdom of not-knowing’.
